The Millennium Quarter is aptly named, as this area of town is all about what's hot right now. You can buy the very latest in fashion (be that a must-have Alexander McQueen dress from Selfridges or the book everyone is talking about at WH Smith), check out the up-and-coming artists at Urbis, then take in the latest film at the Odeon Printworks or big name band at the MEN Arena. And afterwards, you can spend the night dancing to the hottest tunes in Pure or Opus in the Printworks.
However, around here are some of the most beautiful sights of the old city - for the best view, grab the corner table in the window at Harvey Nichols' top floor restaurant. Sinclair's Oyster Bar and the Manchester Catherdral give the Millenium Quarter a flavour of its Victorian heritage.
The area is not well known for its residential qualities, though a few high-end developments are in evidence. Crosby's huge Greenquarter development is well on the way towards creating a suburb of its own. Residential housing in nearby Cheetham Hill tends to be at the lower end of the housing market, with properties selling for less than the national average. Residents of the Millenium Quarter benefit from excellent links with the Metrolink and Victoria Train Station and close access to the motorways, and it can be expected that more building will bring residents to the area over the next few years.
