Work starts on 200 north Manchester homes
02/07/2008
Work is underway to build nearly 200 homes in Heywood, seven miles north of Manchester city centre.
The new development is on the site of Unity Mill, a former industrial warehouse, which was demolished last month.
When completed, the 13-acre development - known as Copper Wells - will comprise 197 townhouses, and three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes.
Countryside Properties which is building the new homes, believes Copper Wells will appeal to young professionals and families.
Sales director Martin Leggett said: "Copper Wells will offer high quality, well designed homes and we're sure it will prove very popular with local residents hoping to climb the property ladder."
A recent article in the Guardian said city workers would benefit from living in one of Manchester's northern commuter towns like Rochdale and Bury as homes are often cheaper and in close proximity to the bright lights of the city.
