Work begins on new Openshaw homes
29/10/2007
Building work has started on a new £65 million housing development in Openshaw.
Situated in Toxteth Street, the first phase of the Manchester property development will be ready by autumn 2008 and will consist of 65 two, three and four-bedroom houses and 18 two-bedroom apartments.
The development, which is being built by Lovell under the auspices of New East Manchester regeneration agency, will eventually comprise 390 two and three-storey townhouses, six bungalows and 36 two-bedroom apartments.
Lovell regional director Nigel Yates said: "This community-orientated new housing scheme has been a long time in the planning.
"It will make an important contribution to the wider regeneration of the area by answering the demand for high-quality new homes for sale and affordable rent locally."
New East Manchester also has plans for a new district centre in Openshaw, which will include a large food store, 13 new shops, cafes, office space and a fitness centre.
