Waterside homes 'set to rise in value'

Manchester property buyers thinking of setting up home at a waterside development could find they are financially better off in the near future, it has been claimed.
Estate agency firm Hamptons said waterside homes were very popular in 2007 and that this trend has not been affected by the credit crunch, reports Assetz.
According to the Stockport and Manchester Canal Society, waterside property prices tend to rise by about a fifth after the regeneration of rivers and other waterways.
Ian Westerling, regional sales director for Hamptons, told Assetz: "Water views are an aesthetic characteristic and provide a pocket of tranquility and peace.
"Many buyers are enticed by a perceived way of life and this sustained demand is likely to continue to keep the prices of properties on the water up for the foreseeable future."
The regeneration of Manchester docks - now known as Salford Quays - has resulted in a spate of new apartments, which in turn has led to improved infrastructure such as an extended Metrolink line and new roads.
