Transformation for Pete Waterman's old studio
17/11/2008
The former recording studio of some of Stock, Aitken and Waterman's biggest hits is set to be transformed.
Following £3 million of backing from NatWest, Castlefield Chapel in Manchester is likely to be converted into offices.
Bluetree Estates, who bought the building two years ago for £1 million, will convert the former recording studio of pop guru Pete Waterman into 11,000 sq ft of office space.
Stock, Aitken and Waterman had scores of hits in the 1980s and 1990s with artists like Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley and Bananarama.
The office rental market in Manchester has been performing well with one million sq ft of space expected to have been snapped up by the New Year.
Companies are choosing the city to relocate from London where wages are high and rents are not cheap.
Bluetree Estates' director Simon Kimble told Manchester Crain's Business: "The chapel has a unique history and character and it's rare to be able to acquire and develop a building like this."
