Study: Universities boosting city-region's house prices

Three Greater Manchester boroughs have all seen their respective house prices rise in the last three years because of their universities.
Research by Halifax has revealed that university towns command an average premium of almost £26,000 on their property prices.
In the list of top 20 university towns that have seen biggest growth in house prices over the last three years is Bolton at number 12, which has seen a 38 per cent rise.
In addition, Salford, which came in at number 13, has witnessed growth of 36 per cent, while Manchester, at number 15, enjoyed a 35 per cent rise.
"More than one quarter of university towns have seen house price increases of at least 20 per cent over the past year," said Halifax managing director Colin Kemp.
"University towns are popular choices for home movers because they usually have a wide range of local facilities, while investors have been attracted by the steady increase in university populations."
Greater Manchester, which hosts five universities, including the Open University regional centre, has the largest student population in the UK.
