Salford now a 'middle-class property hotspot'
03/09/2007
Salford has been described as the fifth most desired address for middle-class Brits looking for an affordable home.
A survey by Royal Bank of Scotland discovered that the city not only has affordable houses, but successful schools, fine restaurants and cultural attractions such as the Lowry Centre and the Imperial War Museum.
Sarah Horsfield, a London-born businesswoman, told the Times that Salford has undergone a process of "gentrification".
"Salford has long been known for council estates but it also has lovely Victorian villas," she added.
Large swathes of Salford are currently undergoing regeneration, including the quays, Chapel Street and Langworthy.
The city is also home to Greater Manchester's only five-star hotel, The Lowry, which is situated on the banks on the River Irwell, overlooking the city of Manchester.
