Sacred geometry applied to east Manchester development

Proposals to build a new housing development in east Manchester have been given the green light.
Manchester City Council has approved plans for Gorton Monastery Village, a 4.7 acre site next to the famous monastery, which was recently refitted as a conference centre.
It is the first time that the principles of sacred geometry or ancient architectural values have been applied to a housing development in Britain, according to the council.
The design for the housing scheme uses the same proportions and ratios found in the monastery, which was created by architect Edward Pugin in the 1860s.
Gorton Monastery Village will also be eco-friendly and will feature very high insulation standards, energy saving appliances, off-street parking and cycle and bin storage.
The Gorton Monastery site, which is three miles to the east of the city centre, sits within New East Manchester's regeneration area and consists of 69 two and three-storey detached, semi-detached and terraced houses.
Tom Russell, chief executive of New East Manchester, said: "We have designed this scheme to sit respectfully next to and enhance the historic monastery building and reflect the wider Gorton area.
"Creating an innovative new urban village with very high standards of architectural design is incredibly exciting."
