Police 'working hard to combat burglaries in Manchester properties'
13/05/2009
Police operating in the Greater Manchester area are working hard to combat property burglaries.
This is according to Chief Constable Peter Fahy of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), who said that the force is making progress in the fight against such crime.
He said: "The introduction of neighbourhood policing teams has really started to improve public confidence and I am pleased to see the public in Greater Manchester is happy with the service they are receiving from our call takers."
Mr Fahy went on to offer a number of tips for keeping properties safe from burglars.
He said that often a few "simple steps", such as making sure the appropriate lighting and locks are fitted and alarms are activated, can deter criminals.
According to figures cited by the GMP, crime has fallen by 5.4 per cent in Greater Manchester compared with the same period last year.
Currently, GMP employs 8,167 police officers, 380 special constables, 270 community support officers and 3,769 police staff.
