Manchester riding high as city house prices soar
30/07/2007
A new house price study has revealed that Manchester witnessed the highest metropolitan house price inflation outside of London last month.
Figures released by the Land Registry show that the city saw a rise of 11.7 per cent in the 12 months to June 2007.
The highest monthly house price increase was in Bury, with a rise of 1.7 per cent, while Salford was the lowest performing metropolitan borough in terms of annual price change.
Across the city-region as a whole, house prices rose by 0.7 and 8.1 per cent over the month and year respectively.
However, the average Greater Manchester property price (£127,766) remains well below the England and Wales average of £181,039, the figures show.
A recent breakdown of property trends by the BBC found that the highest average house price in Greater Manchester price is in Trafford, followed by Stockport and Manchester.
