Manchester makes two appearances in affluent property list

Two areas of Greater Manchester have been highlighted as places that are particularly appealing to young affluent professionals.

Central Manchester and Ordsall in Salford, which is located near the quays, have made it in to the top 35 property hotspots at number ten and 17 respectively.

The fact that the vast majority of the locations in the league table are in London is an indication that Greater Manchester is one of the few places in the country that rival the capital when it comes to attracting young rich professionals.

Commissioned by More Than, the study focused on homes occupied by young professionals who earn over £27,000 a year, earn the latest electronic homeware, such as plasma TVs and iPods, and who go on frequent holidays.

Commenting on the findings, Peter Bolton-King, chief executive of the National Association of Estate Agents, said that it is not surprising London dominates the list, but the fact that Salford makes an appearance is an indication that regeneration in the city is creating new wealth.

"There has also been an increase of apartments being built in city centres specifically targeting young professionals," he added.

The price of an apartment in Manchester's most cutting-edge development, the Beetham Tower in Deansgate, ranges from £100,000 for the cheapest studio to around £3 million for the 750 sq m duplex penthouse at the top.
