'Manchester is an affordable place for first-time buyers'

First-time buyers in Manchester are not priced out of the market as they are in London, according to estate agent chain Savills.
Spokesman Tom Rogers said that buyers seeking their first property can obtain a mortgage for around £100,000 and live in the city centre.
A one-bedroom apartment is still in the reach of first-time buyers, he said before adding that "you wouldn't get that in London".
"Manchester is quite a condensed city centre really so anything in the city centre is accessible for wherever you live," Mr Rogers said.
"As property prices go, I think they are quite fairly priced in Manchester. A one-bedroom apartment is still quite affordable and that's city centre living."
His comments come as Salford City Council announce the creation of 2,500 new homes at Exchange Greengate, near Manchester Cathedral.
The two cities will share a new public square and a river bridge over the River Irwell.
