Manchester docks 'a property hotspot'
20/08/2007
Salford Quays has been highlighted as a top investment opportunity by a leading property organisation, which believes Manchester's waterfront is comparable to London Docklands.
The appeal of the quays, according to the International Property Investment Network (Ipin), is their transport routes, the "cutting edge" urban designs of its buildings and their proximity to central Manchester.
Manchester's docks, a blend of old and new, are now a "trendy" place for both residents and investors, who are eager to take advantage of the range of properties on offer, the firm said.
Ipin's director of investment, Bernardo Retana, said: "Many property investors are looking to invest in the UK's reassuringly stable investment climate.
"Manchester is in fact the second major financial centre outside London and its cost of living is lower than the UK average."
Salford Quays, which is home to the Lowry Centre and the Imperial War Museum North, will soon host several BBC departments after the first stage of the mediacity:uk project is completed.
