Houses to be created in east Manchester
18/02/2009
Around 1,000 new homes are to be constructed in east Manchester, it has been revealed.
Recently, communities secretary Hazel Blears approved a compulsory purchase order which will initiate the next stage of regeneration in the Miles Platting district, an area that is situated between the city centre and Sportcity.
The scheme will also see the creation of small parks, shops, a library and a joint services centre, in addition to the houses, Crains Manchester Business reports.
In addition, a new neighbourhood centre is to be established at the junction of Varley Street and Oldham Road.
A number of organisations are involved in the regeneration, including the Renaissance Consortium, Manchester City Council, NHS Manchester and New East Manchester.
Eddie Smith, acting chief executive of New East Manchester, said: "Combined with the massive improvements to existing homes, this will encourage existing residents to stay in the area and attract many more to live there."
