Housebuilding starts on Maine Road site

Work has started on the redevelopment of Manchester City Football Club's former Maine Road site.
Lowry Homes is building 440 new residential properties, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses.
Known as Maine Place, theManchester property development is intended to kickstart regeneration in Moss Side and Rusholme and local residents will be given priority to purchase during the first sales period.
Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard said: "This development will improve housing quality and choice in the area, for the benefit of current and future residents alike.
"It's taken a lot of hard work to reach this point and I'm delighted to be here as the development is launched in earnest."
Maine Road, which was demolished in 2004, was Manchester City FC's home between 1923 and 2003. The club has moved to the new City of Manchester Stadium in east Manchester, which was built for the Commonwealth Games.
