29/11/2007
House prices across the Manchester city-region rose by half a per cent in October, according to official figures.
Data released by the Land Registry shows that the average Manchester property price in the region now stands at £129,104, after a 7.4 per cent rise over the year.
In the City of Manchester, house prices fell by 0.1 per cent in October, while Bolton and Bury reported declines of 0.3 and 0.1 per cent respectively.
The remaining seven boroughs all saw small house price hikes, with Oldham recording the highest monthly price increase - at 1.8 per cent.
Salford reported the highest annual house price increase of 9.7 per cent in October, the best performance not only in Manchester but in England and Wales.
According to Salford councillor Derek Antrobus, fewer people are leaving Salford and more people are making the city their home, "halting the long-term decline in population that we've seen over the past few decades".
