Home security scheme launched
19/12/2007
Hundreds of Mancunians on the east side of the city have been invited to sign up to a new home security scheme.
A joint £15,000 initiative between local regeneration group New East Manchester and Greater Manchester Police means that up to 300 residents in the Toxteth Street area of Openshaw can feel more secure in their homes.
In the space of an hour, homes can be fitted with two window shock alarms, a door frame guard, hinge bolts and door bar restrictor.
Sean McGonigle, New East Manchester director, said: "This offer is open to anyone living in the Toxteth Street area, particularly vulnerable residents.
"By having these extra security features fitted, we hope to make people feel safer when at home, especially in these dark evenings."
New East Manchester is currently building more than 400 new homes in Openshaw, as well as 13 new shops, cafes, office space and a fitness centre.
