Businesses 'choosing Manchester'

An increasing number of firms are opting to establish a Manchester base, according to a commercial property company.
Stonemartin has let more than 2,000 sq ft of its Manchester office to three businesses new to the area since the turn of the year.
The three companies, Arista Insurance, Total Project Integration and Mills & Reeve, all come from a professional background, but Julie Pickford, general manager for Stonemartin's Manchester premises, is not surprised by that.
"I think it reflects the wider trend of investment in Manchester. This is a really up and coming city and organisations are waking up to its potential in a big way," said Ms Pickford.
She added that the north of England is increasingly being seen by companies as an important strategic base, as businesses no longer need to be located in London to be successful.
Solicitors JMW recently suggested Manchester is an attractive location for companies because its premises costs are much lower than in London, even though the city is well known overseas.
