Manchester has made "huge strides" in building up its property market, while other areas of the north are struggling, it has been claimed.
A report in the Times said that Altrincham, which has seen average prices rise by 22 per cent in a year to £338,293, is a now one of the north's best property hotspots.
Full of trendy shops and restaurants, Altrincham has been transformed Urban Splash's Budenberg Haus-Projekte and the Metrolink, said the newspaper.
Budenberg is six-storey four-block building on Woodfield Road and comprises nearly 300 one and two-bedroom apartments.
"In 2007 perceptions about the north have altered," said Steve Carr, the head of policy at regeneration agency English Partnerships.
"Cities like Manchester and Sheffield have made huge strides, while other areas really struggle. It is no longer enough to think of the north as just one place."
Data released by the Land Registry shows that Greater Manchester property prices have grown by 7.4 per cent rise over the year.
