Tesco plans expansion

Retail giant Tesco has unveiled expansion plans which could create hundreds more jobs.
The global firm wants to turn a Tesco Extra at Middlebrook Retail Park near Bolton into a flagship store.
It already has planning permission to increase floor space to 148,000 sq ft from 113,000 sq ft, but wants to raise that to 171,000 sq ft.
Residents were consulted about the proposals over the weekend.
A spokesman for Tesco told The Bolton News: “We want to make Tesco in Horwich a flagship store and provide customers with a larger range of goods."
The expansion would see 10,000 more items come to the store and a mezzanine level, to be reached via travelator, opened.
If the plans get the thumbs up from the public, the extension could be built within the next six months.
Middlebrook Retail Park is centred around the Reebok Stadium and Bolton Spirit of Sport sculpture.
