Salford council houses get £200m boost
10/10/2008
Salford council houses will be brought up to standard with a £200 million grant under a new landlord.
City West Housing Trust has come on board after 73 per cent of authority tenants voted for a transfer from Salford city council.
The registered social body will implement improvements needed in half of Salford's 15,000 homes to make them warmer, weatherproof and more modern.
However, chief executive of City West Housing Tim Doyle said the transfer would be more than just bricks and mortar.
"We will be working in partnership with local communities and investing in projects designed to address local issues such as dealing with anti-social behaviour and improving facilities on estates," he said.
According to the council, the £200 million investment programme is part of a cash injection planned for estates, homes and services in the area that will add up to £900 million over the next 30 years.
Salford council hosted a competition to bake the world's biggest Eccles cake last Saturday to launch the city's food festival.
