Historic hall gets £6.5m facelift
07/10/2008
A 700-year-old mansion is receiving a multi-million pound facelift to extend some of its secret rooms to tourists.
Some of the rooms in Ordsall Hall in Salford have been closed to the public for centuryies.
However, thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £4.1 million and £2.4 million from Salford city council and fundraisers, the grade one listed building will get a new lease of life.
Cash will go on redeveloping the grounds, creating a learning room and improving exhibits.
Repairs will also be able take place, which unfortunately means closures.
Visitors should visit the Hall this autumn as work will take place from 2009 to 2011.
However, Ordsall Hall will keep in touch with the community by conducting a variety of outreach programmes.
Salford council member for culture and sport, councillor Barry Warner, said: "Having already won a number of tourism awards Ordsall Hall is already on the map, but with this investment we can better showcase this much-loved Salford landmark."
According to the council, Ordsall Hall has also got a ghost cam for people to try to spot spectres like the White Lady.
