Beswick regeneration project wins award
25/04/2008
The ongoing regeneration of Beswick has won a national award, it has emerged.
At a ceremony in London, urban regeneration company New East Manchester and national regeneration agency English Partnerships were presented with an award for Britain's Most Considerate Site.
Judges at the 2008 National Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards were impressed by the cooperation between the regeneration agencies, the construction companies and the local community, including churches, police, school and residential groups.
Paul Spooner, English Partnerships' regional director, said: "This is fantastic news for all the partners and the construction and regeneration industry as a whole."
He praised those involved in the regeneration of Beswick for working closely with the community "in the most considerate manner" to ensure their needs and wishes "were taken on board".
Around 1,100 new homes are currently being built in Beswick. The initial phase began in autumn 2004 and the first residents moved in just over a year later.
